Starting in sales? This is what the role of Inside Sales Account Manager looks like

Are you someone who switches gears effortlessly, loves variety, and always has things under control? Do you enjoy a bit of hustle, working with people, and getting stuff done? Then the role of Inside Sales Account Manager might be exactly what you're looking for.

In this job, you're the commercial backbone of the team. You coordinate, support, and impress customers with your quick service. You’re basically the behind-the-scenes director – and without you? There’s no smooth teamwork, no happy customers. Let’s be honest: it’s also a perfect entry-level position to kickstart your career in sales or business.

What does an Inside Sales Account Manager actually do?

No, you’re not out on the road with a briefcase. You’re the one who makes sure everything runs smoothly, from the office or remote. You’re the go-to person for clients and the right hand of the outside sales team. Think of it as a mix between commercial coordinator, planner, and service wizard.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Answering customer questions? You’ve got it.
Whether it's about delivery times, a product issue, or a new request: you’re on it. Phone, email, or WhatsApp: you act fast, solve the issue, and make the customer feel heard and helped.

  • Creating quotes
Had a solid client meeting? You turn it into a flawless, convincing quote. Pricing, delivery, terms: you make it clear and spot-on.

  • Processing orders
Orders come in, and you make sure everything checks out. You fill in the gaps, enter the details into the system, and make sure it all runs smoothly.

  • Coordinating with sales, purchasing & logistics
Clients ask questions, but it’s your internal teams who provide the answers. You keep communication tight and make sure all promises are actually delivered.

  • Spotting commercial opportunities
You pick up on signals. New needs, expanding clients, potential upsells: you pass the info to the sales team or even take the lead yourself.

No two days are the same. You’re juggling, thinking ahead, making things happen. All with one goal in mind: keeping customers happy. Because happy clients come back and that’s where you come in.

What’s the salary like?

Let’s talk about money! On average, an Inside Sales Account Manager earns between €2,600 and €3,500 gross per month. Where you land depends on your background, experience, and the company. And yes, you can earn more in this role. But salary is just the beginning. Many employers also offer:

  • Bonus schemes
Think team-based goals or personal performance bonuses. Do well, and it shows in your paycheck.

  • Training budgets or internal courses
Learning doesn’t stop at graduation. Companies love investing in your growth, whether it’s sales, communication, or mastering CRM tools.

  • Travel allowance
Train, bike, car commuting costs are often reimbursed.

  • Development talks and growth plans
If you show initiative, doors open. Many companies support you in taking the next step.

What’s the growth path?

This role isn’t a dead end, it’s the launch pad for a commercial career. You get to work across departments and build a solid understanding of how a business runs. That makes you valuable. And after that?

👉 Outside Sales / Field Account Manager
More face-to-face client contact, managing relationships, closing deals. Great if you enjoy being on the move and building personal connections.

👉 Sales Support Lead / Team Coordinator
More responsibility, leading a support team, streamlining processes, mentoring new hires.

👉 Commercial Project Manager or Key Account Support
Handling major clients or big projects. You’re the steady contact person for strategic accounts or campaigns.

Best part? You don’t need to have your 5-year plan mapped out yet. You’ll discover what fits you along the way.

What do you need for this role?

No endless list of requirements, just a few essentials to help you shine in this role:

  • MBO+ or HBO (college-level) working and thinking level: A background in commerce, communication, or admin helps, but attitude counts more than a diploma.
  • Solid communication skills: You connect easily with clients and colleagues. You know how to say “no” kindly and clearly.
  • You’re organized and get things done: Chaos? Not on your watch. You keep things structured and love checking off your to-do list.
  • Commercial mindset: You recognize opportunities and know how to turn them into solutions that benefit both the client and the company.
  • CRM experience? Nice bonus!: If you’ve worked with order or client management tools before, awesome. If not, you’ll learn fast.
