Crazy job interview trends in 2025
These days, we often feel like we've seen it all. Information spreads so fast that new discoveries rarely stay new for long. And unfortunately, the same goes for the job market.
That's right. The competition to find the best job or employee is downright fierce. Companies and job hunters are doing everything in their power to stay ahead of the curve, sparking a variety of interesting job application trends. And some of those are downright bizarre.
The TikTok application
Who cares about the old-fashioned resume when you can show off your skills in a wicked video? Because if TikTok is the way to capture hearts these days, why not try it with employers? Which is why we're spotting more and more job applications that have traded in paper for catchy music, snappy edits and a generous dose of personality. And it works (well, sometimes). Because some companies love the creative approach. But other companies wonder if they are watching a job application or an audition for a reality show.
Your resume as a billboard or QR code
Need to stand out in a pile of resumes? Well, some applicants just buy a billboard with their name and a catchy pitch on it near the headquarters of their dream company. Others might print their resume on a T-shirt or have a QR code tattooed on their bodies (okay, that last one has to be a hoax... right?). These kinds of creative extravagances are guaranteed to attract attention - although whether they turn out positively is a different matter.
Applying for jobs through dating apps
Yep, you read that right. Some jobseekers are using Tinder and Bumble to find their dream job. How? By filling their profile text with career aspirations instead of statements about who should pay for a first date. “Swipe right if you are a recruiter with an open marketing position!” It sounds crazy, but some candidates were actually able to secure an interview through this route. Love might not be in the air, but a job offer sure is.
A tasteful job application with... cake
Why bother with a standard resume when you can print your work experience on a cake? More and more applicants are opting for a unique first impression by having their resume or cover letter printed on a cake or cookies. Let's just hope the delivery driver is careful with bumps in the road.
The “Hire Me” stunt
From applicants who write entire rap songs about why they're perfect for the job to people who hire a cab to offer a CEO a ride with a built-in pitch - some people go really far to impress. Sometimes it works, sometimes it leads to viral fame - and in some cases, maybe a restraining order.
What do you think? Are you brave enough to go above and beyond to apply for a job, or do you think you'll stick to the traditional way?
